Day 5: Central Colorado

133 North from Hotchkiss to Carbondale via Mcclure pass. Outstanding views.

Southern part drives like a smooth ski slalom.

At Carbondale turn South/East on 82 towards Aspen and lunch:

Aspen is really big and ritzy. Well-developed with expensive shops. Maybe a little too fancy... Lunch was great.

The road East from Aspen is narrow and twisty:

Independence pass has multiple 14k foot mountains around:

82 East of the pass are tight steep switchbacks then the Twin Lakes Reserviour.

From 82, join up with 24 South; get gas at Buena Vista.

24 south to 50 west at Poncha Springs, 3 cop cars going back to base on 24.

Monarch Pass is occasionally twisty and slow but very pretty.

East and West of the Continential Divide alway seem different.

Check into the Water Wheel Inn by the gold course a bit west of Gunnison. Catch the just-released Jackie Chan/Chris Tucker movie Rush Hour at the local theater which has good sound and projection. We show up 20 minutes early and tehre's nobody there. Folks seem to arrive about 5 minutes before the movie...
